Up until recently I was content to stand on the sidelines and inspire myself to continue to grow as a developer. Encouraged by one of my former professors, I started to speak out against an issue that’s been grating against my brain for the past several years — the whole Flash vs. HTML debate. I realize I’m not the only one who feels strongly that the faction-like attitude fostered since the dot com bubble is alarming.

I’m also passionate about the future of digital technology education. Many programs succeed in inspiring students but fail to instill confidence in the student’s technical abilities. Others focus on pure skillset development without a thought for training student’s to evolve with the times. Complicating things are the demands of the workplace, which want graduates to come out of school specialized and ready to contribute to their process at a high level. Groups like SoDA and WaSP InterAct are starting to get toward solutions.

My goal here is to speak about these sorts of issues. To be inspired by the things people are doing online that drew me into this field to begin with. And just to be clear: The views here are most definitely my own.
